What Does The Meningitis ACWY Protect From?
The vaccination helps protect you against meningitis, an infection that leads to the inflammation of the meninges—the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. The MenACWY vaccine, is given as a single injection in the upper arm and guards against four strains of meningococcal bacteria: A, C, W, and Y. These strains are responsible for causing meningitis and blood poisoning (septicaemia).
Who Needs The Meningitis ACWY Vaccine?
If you are part of any of the specified groups, we strongly advise getting vaccinated:
- If you’re travelling for Hajj or Umrah pilgrimages.
- If you’re travelling to regions in Africa or Latin America with high rates of meningococcal disease.
- All children aged 13 to 15.
- First-year university "freshers."
